The Adventure at the
end of the world
Welcome to the ultimate adventure racer’s dream:
PATAGONIA EXPEDITION RACE. An adventure race
waiting to be discovered in the most southern tip of South
America. Each edition, a different route through a
geographically unique and spectacular area between southern
latitudes 49º and 56º. This terrain is full of worldwide wonders
such as the South Ice Field, the Torres
del Paine, the Straits of Magellan,
Tierra del Fuego, the Beagle Channel
and Cape Horn. It is an un-spoilt territory,
much of it is uninhabited with a great variety of landscapes and
distinct climates. A place isolated from the rest of the world.
Imitating what Indian forefathers have done during thousands of
years and only until little more than one century ago, the
competitors, organized in small groups, will have to advance
over plains, mountains, glaciers, native forests, swampland,
rivers, lakes and channels; guided only by their mind and spirit
but driven on by physical stamina and experience.
In following editions of the PATAGONIA EXPEDITION RACE,
mixed teams of 4 persons, including at least one man and one
woman competitor, will travel distances over 500 km with minimal
assistance on route. The fundamental disciplines will include:
mountain biking, trekking, sea kayaking, orienteering, and rope
activities.
First Edition: February of the 2004. The race
will advance toward the south, beyond the American continental
territory, where the continent becomes a labyrinth of islands
and channels in the south end of CHILE. The event will reach a
southern latitude never reached before in an expedition
